Privacy Policy

Last updated 26 September 2026

Skip Tracing and Locations Australia Pty Ltd, trading as People Trackers Australia (ABN 52 675 822 349), is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information it handles. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information, in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

The information we collect

We collect two distinct categories of personal information.

Information about our clients. Name, contact details, organisation, billing information, and the details of the instructions given to us.

Information about the subjects of engagements. Where we are instructed to locate a person or investigate a matter, we collect information about that person from our client and from lawful sources — including public registers, court and property records, company and directorship records, bankruptcy and insolvency registers, publicly available information, and subscription databases operated in compliance with the Privacy Act.

Why we collect it

We collect personal information only where it is reasonably necessary to perform the services we have been engaged to provide — locating a person or business, serving legal documents, conducting searches, or carrying out factual investigation.

Before accepting an engagement we confirm that the purpose is lawful and legitimate. We decline instructions where the purpose appears to be harassment, stalking or intimidation, or where an intervention order, family violence order or similar protective order may be in place.

How we use and disclose it

Information obtained in the course of an engagement is used only for that engagement. It is not repurposed, sold, or used for another client or matter.

We disclose the results of an engagement to the client who instructed us. We may also disclose personal information where required or authorised by law, including in response to a court order, subpoena, or a lawful request from a regulator or law enforcement agency.

We do not sell personal information.

Storage and security

All documentation and information remains confidential and is held at a secure location, with access limited to those working on the relevant matter. We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Credit reporting information

Credit reporting information is separately and strictly regulated under Part IIIA of the Privacy Act 1988. Access is limited to permitted purposes by permitted entities. We do not provide credit reports to clients as part of our services.

Debt collection engagements

Where an engagement relates to debt recovery, our conduct also follows the joint ACCC and ASIC Debt Collection Guideline. Tracing establishes location only — we do not undertake collection activity, and we do not contact the subject of a trace unless separately and specifically instructed to do so.

Website information

When you submit an enquiry through this website, the information you provide is transmitted to us by a third-party form service and delivered to our business email address. We use it solely to respond to your enquiry.

This website does not run advertising trackers. Where analytics are used, they are used to understand aggregate website usage rather than to identify individual visitors.

Accessing and correcting your information

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Contact us using the details below.

Access rights are subject to the exceptions in the Privacy Act. In particular, we may be unable to provide access where doing so would prejudice an investigation, reveal the identity of a client, or breach a legal obligation or another person's privacy.

Complaints

If you believe we have handled your personal information improperly, contact us first and we will investigate and respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.
